Are you Ready to Care for a Yorkshire Terrier Puppy?

leaf Before you get a Yorkshire terrier puppy you need to make sure everyone in your home is ready to care for it.

Don’t assume that you know everything about this breed of dog because you have had a dog in the past. They require some special things and as their owner you need to be willing to provide it.

Most of the time the problems that these puppies will experience have to do with the fact that the owner didn’t realize what was needed. For example they might be feeding the puppy soft dog food.

This can result in the teeth not developing like they should and so dry dog food should be given. A small amount of soft dog food can be mixed with it for a while if you like.

Yorkshire terrier puppies require a great deal of ongoing care from the very beginning. You have to make sure their environment is very safe. They can be stepped on or fall off things such as beds or furniture.

They are quite curious so don’t expect them to realize that they are on the edge of the bed or any other piece of furniture. Keep them on a level area on the floor so that it won’t become a problem.

It is very important that you find a veterinarian in your area that has experience caring for this breed. Your puppy will need to be seen on a regular basis for a variety of things. You want to make sure all shots are taken care of on time to prevent various health problems.

You also want to make sure routine check-ups are done so that any type of problem can be diagnosed early on. Since Yorkies are known for health problems this isn’t something you want to skip. Don’t wait until your puppy is exhibiting problems to take it into the Vet for a check-up, as that can result in your pup suffering when it shouldn’t have to.

The diet for a Yorkie puppy is very important. You need to provide it with all the nutrients it will need.

They don’t eat very much so you should go out of your way to buy premium dog food. Don’t get your puppy in the habit of eating people food either, as then it won’t eat the correct food that it needs for good health.

Proper grooming is essential as well. You have to take the time to brush your puppy each day. You also need to follow directions for getting the ears to stay up.

This isn’t something that is a genetic trait of the breed. It can take many weeks to accomplish the look you are after.

If you are really keen on getting a Yorkshire Terrier, take the time to learn all you can about them before buying one. They are definitely cute and they will always be small.

Yet you want this type of pet to be as healthy and happy as possible. That means you are going to need to do everything correctly for them from the start.

Once you have learned all you can it will be easier to decide if a Yorkie is right for you. Then when you see a puppy for sale you will be able to get one without thinking twice about it.

You will be able to offer everything it needs continually, and it will make the relationship much more enjoyable for both of you.
