One of the most important things to consider with a Yorkshire terrier is their grooming needs. This needs to be taken care of all the time to keep them looking great.

Ideally you should be brushing your Yorkshire terrier each day. At the very least you should do it every other day. Don’t be in a rush to complete this process though as you won’t get the results you are after.

Knowing how to groom a Yorkie is all part of the process. You want to make sure you are spending your time doing it the right way. It is a type of Yorkie art once you get it all down pat.

Make sure you can keep your Yorkshire terrier feeling relaxed during this process. That way you can both enjoy it and there won’t be any anxiety involved.

You only need to bathe your Yorkshire terrier about once a month. Use a very mild baby soap or one your vet recommends. It is important that you remove all the soap off too. If it is left on the hair it can result in the skin becoming dry and irritated.

Make sure you dry your Yorkie off well afterwards to prevent it from getting a chill. You can use a blow dryer if you wish but make sure you don’t get the heat too high.

Of course there is more to grooming a Yorkie than just brushing their hair. You need to keep their hair trimmed as well. You need to be able to decide on the right types of hair cuts at a given time.

You may make your decision based on the temperatures at a given time of year. You may want to base it on upcoming dog shows or other events in your life as well.

If you want to take care of all the grooming needs for your Yorkshire terrier you will need to invest in the right tools. Don’t cut corners on the price as that is going to compromise the quality that you get from them.

You want to be able to do a good job and part of that starts with having the right tools to use all the time.

How often you will need to clip their hair depends on the growth patterns of your particular dog. It also depends on what type of hair style you would like your Yorkshire terrier to have. Just like with humans, some types of cuts require more maintenance than others do.
